DSWV partners IBIA to protect sporting integrity

The German Sports Betting Association (DSWV) and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in an effort to protect sports integrity.

Under the arrangement, the DSWV and IBIA will work in partnership and coordinate their activities on betting and related integrity issues in Germany.

The two associations will bring together their expertise on activities aimed at promoting a viable regulated sports betting market in the country that has high consumer channelling and related consumer, sports and operator integrity protection measures.

“The partnership between the DSWV and IBIA is another welcome step forward for the German sports betting industry,” DSWV president Mathias Dahms said. “With its many years of international experience and expertise in the field of sports integrity, the IBIA will support us in strengthening the regulated market and protecting it from manipulation.

German state of Bremen shuts down all bookmakers amid AML concerns

The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen – the smallest state in Germany – has announced a full closure of all bookmakers following a statewide investigation into money laundering.

The announcement affects the four operators that offer retail betting services in Bremen – Tipico, HappyBet, Tipwin and XTiP – which between them operate 32 betting shops.

A total of 24 of the operators’ franchises were “tolerated” in the state before the shutdown came into effect, according to a statement on Bremen’s state website, but were awaiting full approval.

Now, however, Bremen has issued rejection letters to all 32 betting shops after the four operators were unable to prove where their funds originated from, leading to concerns about money laundering.

Once the rejection notices were issued, it became illegal to bet in any of the bookmakers in Bremen.

The announcement came from the Bremen Landtag, after Interior Senator Ulrich Mäurer conducted a press conference explaining the closures.

Four suppliers join DSWV as first “partner companies”

Four betting suppliers have joined German betting trade association Deutscher Sportwettenverband (DSWV) as the organisation’s first “partner companies”.

Payment provider Aircash, risk and identity services provider Crif, fintech business Okto and data provider Sportradar will all join DSWV as its first non-operator members as it “opens up to companies from the sports betting value chain”.

“The DSWV and its member companies stand for the legal sports betting market in Germany,” Crif chief executive Frank Schlein said. “Working together in the association to make the market even fairer and safer for customers and providers motivates us to become a partner of the DSWV.”

DSWV President Mathias Dahms said the addition of these businesses would help the entire German sports betting industry speak with a single voice.
