BHA appoints Alison Enticknap to new strategy role

The British Horseracing Association (BHA) has appointed Alison Enticknap to the newly created role of director of strategy and change.

In her new position Enticknap will lead the BHA’s coordination of industry strategy, and work with colleagues across the industry.

Enticknap’s new role will be placed within the BHA’s new strategy and change department, which is currently in development.

The department will oversee cross-industry projects and project delivery, as well as building capacity.

Enticknap has held the role of interim director of communications and corporate affairs at the BHA since 2021, having first joined the company in 2018.

“I see this role as a huge opportunity for racing to work together to address our biggest challenges and to seize important opportunities, ” said Enticknap. “The prize is enormous if we can collaborate as an industry and get this right.”

NatCen study claims 10% of online accounts responsible for 79% of GGY

A new study conducted by NatCen for GambleAware claims that 79.0% of online operator revenue comes from the highest-staking 10% of accounts, with online slots showing a particularly concentrated spending pattern.

The study used records from seven online operators, which each provided data about 20,000 accounts active between July 2019 and June 2019. These seven operators together made up more than 85% of the UK betting market, though only 37.5% of the gaming market.

It then weighted the data from these accounts to be representative of the overall online gambling market.

For each customer, NatCen had access to betting data showing the exact date, time and stake of all bets placed by each customer, while for gaming, data was split into 15-minute windows.

For both online betting and gaming, the research found that revenue at these operators was highly concentrated among a relatively small share of accounts.

Caesars launches new horse racing betting app in Florida and Ohio

The Caesars Sportsbook division of Caesars Entertainment and NYRA Bets, the official online wagering platform of the New York Racing Association (NYRA), have launched a new horse racing account wagering mobile app in Florida and Ohio.

Caesars Racebook will use the NYRA Bets platform to provide customers with pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing content from more than 250 tracks around the world.

The wagering menu includes Belmont Park, Saratoga Race Course, Del Mar, Santa Anita, Keenelandas, well as Caesars-operated tracks such as Harrah’s Hoosier Park, Horseshoe Indianapolis, Harrah’s Philadelphia, and Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs.

Other features in the new app, which are also available through NYRA Bets, include options for include race replays and handicapping insights.

Kindred secures Dutch licence

Unibet operator Kindred Group has secured an online gambling licence from the Dutch regulator de Kansspelautoriteit (KSA).

The licence, which comes into effect from today (8 June) will enable Kindred to offer both commercial online gambling and betting to players in the country’s regulated market.

Kindred said the issuing of the licence follows an extensive application process including the successful completion of relevant audits.

The group added that it will launch its flagship Unibet brand in the Netherlands within the coming days.

BCLC expands PlayNow.com into Saskatchewan

The British Colombia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is to expand the reach of its PlayNow.com online gambling platform into the Saskatchewan province.

Under a deal with both the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) and SaskGaming, PlayNow.com will offer players in Saskatchewan access to over 400 casino, live casino, poker and sports betting products.

The agreement follows a request for proposal process that SIGA launched last year.

Virginia sports betting revenue and handle up year-on-year in April

The Virginia Lottery reported a year-on-year increase across both sports betting revenue and handle in the state during April.

Player spending for the month amounted to $399.5m (£320.4m/€374.2m), up 65.0% from $236.4m in April of last year, but down 14.9% from $469.5m in March this year.

The Virginia Lottery said that the year-on-year rise in spending was due to an increase in the number of licensed operators active in the state, with this rising from seven in April 2021 to 12 this year.

Turning to adjusted gross gaming revenue, which is defined as total wagers minus winnings, bouses and promotions and other authorised deductions, this jumped 77.8% from $11.7m in April last year to $20.8m.

This amount also represented a 45.5% month-on-month increase from $14.3m in March this year.

Consumers won a total of $363.2 from sports betting during April, while $11.3m in bonuses and promotions were issued to players.

The state was able to generate $3.0m in tax from sports betting in April..

The Caesars Racebook wagering app has launched in Florida and Ohio today (1 June).

Caesars Racebook is a collaboration between the a collaboration between Caesars Sportsbook and the online betting arm of the New York Racing Association (NYRA Bets), using the NYRA Bets platform to offer pari-mutuel wagering on over 250 race tracks globally.

SIS appoints new heads for racing trading and esports

Live betting services provider Sports Information Services (SIS) has appointed Adam Conway as head of competitive gaming and Aiden Tracey as head of racing trading.

Conway moves into his new role having previously served as head of racing trading at SIS and will oversee the full operation of the esports-focused SIS Competitive Gaming division.

SIS said the business unit has been built specifically for sportsbooks, allowing bettors to watch and bet on live broadcasts of head-to-head events between gamers on esports titles such as CS:GO, as well as Ebasketball and Esoccer.

Tracey, who previously served as racing trading manager for SIS, will replace Conway. His new remit will be to continue the development of SIS’ trading offering, while also overseeing risk management for operators of all sizes.
